Wildlife Tours

Join us for our Wildlife Tour and experience Far North Queensland’s World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics with Snapping Tours.

Our Wildlife Tours follow the winding banks of the Johnstone River on a 2 hour guided river cruise. Learn about the region’s history, the biodiversity of the river system and spot wildlife in their natural habitat, including the mighty saltwater crocodile.

Saltwater crocodiles are magnificent creatures. Our tour guides have a keen eye for them, lurking beneath the waters or sunning themselves on the river banks.

It’s not all about the crocs though; you’ll get the opportunity to spot many species of unique birdlife, fish, turtles and more.

Spotting Saltwater Crocodiles

Please be aware that spotting crocodiles in the wild is not always guaranteed. We are on the river most days, and we know where to look, but these are wild animals and we cannot guarantee sightings. We estimate a 98% success rate on cruises between May and October.

Between October and May, FNQ begins to reach scorching temperatures. Therefore, the Johnstone River becomes a lot warmer and crocodiles will spend most of their time either in the warm water or on the banks, sunning themselves.

This reduces our chances of spotting crocodiles between October and May, but we’ll do our best.
